Abstract Spirituality is not easily defined; many people tend to confuse spirituality with religion and when they are two completely different things their meaning and how they can be implemented into counseling will be discussed. Spirituality is mostly used in counseling to aid recovery in clients struggling with addiction (Greene Nguyen, 2012). There is pros and cons about integrating spirituality into counseling, is the client open to talk about their spiritual beliefs, is the counselor flexible and knowledgeable to accept other people’s beliefs without forcing his or her beliefs into the client, how can a counselor help a person in need of recovery? These are questions that will lead to discussion to find the possible benefits and struggles that we might encounter when practicing spiritual counseling. INTEGRATING SPIRITUALITY INTO COUNSELING There is many definitions of spirituality and this may cause confusion into understanding how is spirituality used in a counseling setting and for what reason, people’s first thought might be to relate spirituality with religion.
